Business tax receipt (btr)
Are you opening a new business, moving your existing business, adding, or deleting services from your existing operation, or received a code citation for not having a proper Certificate of Use and Business Tax Receipt?
All businesses wishing to operate in the City of Miami Beach must obtain a Business License, which includes the Certificate of Use (CU), Annual Fire Fee, and Business Tax Receipt (BTR).
To apply for a CU, please follow these instructions:

- Once the CU application is approved by the Miami Beach Planning Department, an applicant may request the Fire Inspection via Civic Access.
- Once the Fire Inspection is approved, the CU will be automatically issued, and an applicant will be able to apply for their BTR.

Required Documentation:
- Valid Certificate of Use (CU)
- Lease or Warranty Deed
- Miami-Dade Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources - Municipal Certificate of Use (if applicable)
If there is a “defined square footage” and a “defined location” for the business, then it needs a DERM review, except for:

- Home Based Business
- Short-Term Rental Units
- Apartment Buildings and Condominiums
- Federal Identification Number (FEIN)
- Articles of Incorporation
- Fictitious Name (if applicable)
- State License (if applicable)
